Phantom Baby Cries
I called this day before noon.
Baby wakes up early, Norah sleeps in
Baby takes a pitifully short nap
I try hard to put Baby back to sleep
I try again
I get frustrated
Baby gets frustrated
Norah gets ignored
We call a truce and Norah watches the Baby and a cartoon while I pack our picnic lunch
We meet friends for a picnic
Baby is happy being out
Norah is happy being out
Mom is happy being out
We get back in the car to drop Norah at a friend's house and this happens:
Baby thinks, "I've had a nice nap"
Mom thinks, "Maybe this time he'll go right back to sleep in his crib"
Baby says, "Yeah right"
Mom says, "You're sleeping!"
Baby laughs (this is not an exaggeration)
Mom can't help it at this point because baby giggles can fix the most sour of moods
Mom lets baby out of baby jail
Mom and baby happily play together in the nice cool basement
Mom thinks baby looks tired enough
Baby is surprised that mom is still trying
Mom is stubborn
Baby is more so
Baby gets out of baby jail again
Mom and baby head to guest bed because that rooms is darker and cooler. Mom lays down and nurses baby to sleep. Mom creeps upstairs. Baby wakes - Mom dashes downstairs and like a stealthy ninja slides back into bed. Baby buys it. Mom sneaks back upstairs.
All is quiet. Mom should relax, but she keeps hearing Phantom Baby Cries. "Was that him!?" "Is that the washing machine or baby!?"
Maybe mom will head outside and enjoy the sunshine. Sheesh.
